Central Help Board
December 22nd, 2008Winter Solstice site review
Yes, it was winter Solstice, the shortest day of the year.
How many of you monitor addicts noticed that?
Since there is no Gullible Warming in Canada,
it will still be cold for a while, but at least the days
will get longer.
The interactive site review today made one thing very clear.
We need ONE central site where everybody can post
questions.
JUST questions,
JUST questions,
NOT telling each other, that you too now have an
eBook or program for sale, that we have tried
peddling a few years ago, or one which we got free as an
incentive for buying a $10 book a few years ago.
Save that kind of stuff for outside the circle of students,
or at the very least, don’t mention it in posts! It just
makes you appear as desperate as an out of shape hooker
in a snow storm at 3 am, trying to make bus fare home.
Sure, offer it on your site, in case a newbie comes
around, but please don’t puke it onto other student’s
blogs! It will just get you blocked.
</RANT>
OK, so we need to settle on ONE site that we use
just for posting questions, and reading questions.
People who have answers, can post them there,
or on the questioner’s blog, or answer them via
email for those who know how to take care of spam,
and have the guts to post their email address.
We can gladly use my blog for the help bulletin board.
I am not competing for the traffic price, because it
would not be fair to those, who are new to blogging.
Whether we decide to use this blog, or somebody
else’s, we will have to settle on ONE site as a
bulletin board for posting help requests and questions,
and we will have to agree not to peddle our marbles
when we post a question or answer one.
Keep in mind, the person who might be ideal for
answering your question or solving your problem,
might be selling the same marbles on his or her
site, and would be very annoyed, if you spam the
central help request board with commercials.
The person, whose site we use for a central
help request board, won’t have to answer the
help requests, just moderate it, and weed out
thinly disguised commercials.
Feel free to copy this post, or link it into your
blog, and get the message spread around.
Let’s see who else volunteers to host and
moderate the help request board, and then
vote on which choice we settle on.
Anything else is a waste of everybody’s time.
Have FUN!

Webby, First, I agree, we need to be careful about pimping stuff around to the members or all this group will turn into a spam fest. And I agee that offering anything on yourindividual site is of course the right of each of us, but the key is to be careful what we push into the network.
Second, As to the central location for the information, why can’t we use the ‘Fortunate500′ site. The forum can have sections devoted to specific topics: Blob set up, article marketing, blog marketing, etc. This way all qustions and information can be segregated and easy to find. Iv’e had experienced forums used for this and it works fine.
This will give us with one central location for all information - and a system where info is readily available.

Great idea, John!
I didn’t mean to imply that I recommended using my site for it, just that it IS available, if we don’t agree on something better.
I am glad you volunteered the ‘Fortunate500′.
Categorizing help requests might not be the most efficient way to go about it. It might be better to have a casual board where people can post help requests or questions, and anybody can contact them with answers. When their question has been answered satisfactorily, they can mark it DONE, and THEN they, or the admin would move it into a category.
Until DONE, it should be on the lobby bulletin board.

Hello my friend!
Thanks for dropping by my blog and thank your for the tips!
It`s so true what you are saying in your “rant” here. Do not hype your eBook or whatever among us students, if someone needs to hype their new eBook, do it outside our community.
Let`s get on our feets and let`s get dry behind behind our ears first, when that`s done, then we can start talk about cross JV`ìng and promoting products.
All the best,
André T.

Hi John
Great rant, I agree. Sadly I have had to block email notifications from the 500 site as I’m getting so many and I can’t keep up with them all. That’s a shame, really, as I didn’t mind getting personal email with requests for help.
There is no reason why people can’t post these announcements as a discussion in the forum section of the 500 site, then everyone could choose whether they read it or not and interact accordingly. As it stands, some people are using it as their personal email list, without opt-in.
Hope you have a great, 2009, John
Take care

I agree with Paula. To make the Fortunate500 site more than a mutual admiration society sand box and smiley exchange, we need a common bulletin board reserved for just tech questions.

Good info, thanks for the share. If I ask you a rhetorical question about yourself, you wouldn’t mind would you?

I don’t mind any questions.
